Christian rapper TobyMac's son Truett Foster's cause of death has been ruled an accidental drug overdose.
A representative confirmed the news to People magazine, citing fentanyl and amphetamines.
Foster died on Oct. 23, 2019, at the age of 21 after medics responded to a cardiac arrest call to the family's Tennesse home.

Truett was an aspiring rapper. He went by the names Truett Foster, TRU, Shiloh and truDog online and collaborated with his father on a few tracks.
In a tribute written by TobyMac, and obtained by Fox News shortly after his son's death, TobyMac said his son 'had joy that took the room when he entered.'
'He was a magnetic son and brother and friend. If you met him you knew him, you remembered him,' TobyMac wrote. 'His smile, his laugh, the encouragement he offered with words or even without. He had an untamable grand personality and dreams to match. And he hated being put in a box.
'He expressed himself through the music he made,' TobyMac continued. 'And by made I mean, written, recorded, produced, mixed, and designed the art. All of it. A true artist. His first show was a week ago, and it was nothing short of electric.
'Everyone felt it, everyone knew it,' he recalled. 'He could’ve easily taken the easy route and put music out when he was 12, 14, 16, even 18, but he always said he wanted to live some life and have something to say before he did it. He didn’t want to be a child star, he wanted to be a man with scars and a story to tell. I always admired, respected and encouraged that stand.'
He added: 'Truett always had a soft spot for God. The Bible moved him. His heart was warm to the things of his King. He was by no means a cookie-cutter Christian but give me a believer who fights to keep believing. Give me a broken man who recognizes his need for a Savior every time. That’s who Truett was and how he should be remembered.'
TobyMac went on to share his 'last moment' in-person with his son, which was the Thursday before his death at the Factory in Franklin, Tenn.
'I had to leave the next morning very early to fly and start our Canadian tour,' he said. 'As I stood in the audience and watched my son bring joy to a room, I was as proud as a “pop” (as tru called me) could be. It was the culminating moment of a dream that he had since he was 12.
'It couldn’t have been sweeter. Our music, and what we say lyrically couldn’t be more different, but the outcome was much the same… offering a room full of people a few minutes of joy in a crazy world.'
In his tribute, TobyMac also shared the last text message exchange he had with Truett, where he told his son how proud of him he was, to which Truett responded: 'love you dad. thank you so much. you have always believed in me. make me feel like a superhero.'
TobyMac concluded his tribute by saying that he and his wife, Amanda -- with whom he also shares children, twins Moses and Marlee, Leo, and Judah -- 'would want the world to know' the following.
'We don’t follow God because we have some sort of under the table deal with Him, like we’ll follow you if you bless us. We follow God because we love Him. It’s our honor.'

Please understand that I don't condemn anyone, for the Bible condemns all of us as guilty, dirty, rotten, hell-deserving sinners. My salvation solely rests in Christ's righteousness, because of the precious blood that He gave for our sins. My intention is not to be unkind; but rather, to expose the demonic nature of so-called 'Christian rock' and 'Christian Hip Hop' music. The issue is not about tobyMac personally; but rather, about the worldly music he claims to sing in Jesus' name.
So many people just don't love God anymore. I expose the evils of so-called Christian Hip Hop because I love God. Someone needs to rise up and say, “That is not of God!”
Romans 12:2, 'And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.' God commands us not to be conformed to this world. The Greek word for 'conformed' here is 'suschematizo' and means 'to fashion alike, i.e. conform to the same pattern.' Is this not what tobyMac and other religious Hip Hoppers are doing? Yes, exactly so! They are fashioning themselves to the sinful world.
The lame excuse is that worldly music will lure worldly teenagers to Christ, but that is a lie of the Devil. Worldly music only lures worldly teenagers to more worldliness. Those teens aren't coming to Jesus Christ, they're coming to repackaged worldly music. That's all that Christian Rock really is.. Rock 'N' Roll repackaged!
tobyMac is also the lead singer of the godless band dc Talk and has captivated the hearts and minds of religious teens all around the world. I tell you assuredly, tobyMac is a wolf in sheep's clothing! There is NOTHING 'Christian' about tobyMac's music. Look at the above photo. Do you see Jesus? I see a street punk who needs to find God. I'm not saying that tobyMac is a punk, I'm just saying that he looks like a punk. Romans 12:2 commands us not to be fashioned according to this sinful world. Wikipedia even admits that Christian punk is a subgenre of Punk Rock.1 That's where Christian Punk came from.. PUNK ROCK! And again, there is NOTHING Christian about punk music, nothing at all.

Likewise, there is no such animal as 'Christian rock' or 'Christian Hip Hop.' If you listen to Snoop Dog or Eminem, you really can't tell the music apart from so-called Christian Hip Hop. And again, even the secular online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, admits that Christian Punk came from Punk Rock.1

When the world talks about 'diversity,' they are telling us to tolerate the sins of homosexuality, witchcraft and abortion. Ironically, the organization Concerned Women for America (CWFA) actually promote tobyMac. I think they need to get a lot more concerned about the garbage that their children are listening to. The Sick Truth About DC Talk
Some of DC TALK’S musical role models are the Beatles, David Bowie, and The Police, all of which are wicked secular rock groups. Granted, any honest person would have to admit that there is worldly music that they like, singers that inspire then, and bands that they favor. BUT, as Christians who love the Lord, we also realize that such groups are of the Devil. The singers are unsaved. George Harrison and John Lennon of The Beatles died and went to Hell in their sins.
One of the most beautiful songs ever sang is, Then There Was You, by The Beatles; but many of their other songs promote Communism, sexual immorality, substance abuse, and rebellion. So as believers, even though some may honestly admit to enjoying the world's music (which is human); we ought not listen to it, nor support their wickedness, because of what the singers represent. The entire music industry is against God. Sin is fun according to the Bible, i.e., the “pleasures” of sin; but it only lasts for a season (Hebrews 11:25), and brings God's judgment (Romans 1:32). All of the heathen music aired over the radio today is sang by godless, wicked and reprobate singers; who sold themselves to serve the Devil as did king Ahab (1st Kings 21:20).
Is it sinful to sing an old Roy Rogers song? Is it sinful to sing, Lord I Hope This Day is Good, by Don Williams? I don't think it is. I don't think it's wrong to sing a Hawaiian song, such as Beyond the Reef, just because their culture is pagan. Hawaiians didn't write the song. It depends on the words of the song, how it is being used, whether it is sensual or decent, and a bunch of other considerations as well. The big problem with Contemporary Christian Music [CCM] is that the fans are following the apostate beliefs of the singers, the ecumenical ministers they tour with, and
Music is a spiritual medium, a vehicle, by which people's minds and hearts are influenced. Music can change a person's mood, lift up, even creating euphoria, or music can be depressing (such as all the Russian songs sang in minor keys). Music is a powerful tool, or even a weapon. One torture technique used by the military is to force someone to listen to loud heavy metal music for hour upon hour. Actually, I think having to listen to the chipmunks or The Barney Song would be worse. I hate Barney (you remember, that stupid purple dinosaur).
Having said that, dc Talk’s album “Free at Last” contains a song titled “Jesus Is Just Alright,” which was first sung by the Byrds (the song was later covered by the Doobie Brothers; a “doobie” is a marijuana joint). DC Talk’s Kevin Smith admits that he listens to mostly secular rock music (Flint Michigan Journal, March 15, 1996, B19). dc Talk opened its “Jesus Freak” concerts with the Beatles’ song “Help.” They also perform Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze. Hendrix was a drug-crazed New Age occultist. Liking the world's music is human; but to embrace it, reproduce it, and promote it is sinful. Garbage belongs in the garbage. We don't have to lift the sewer cover to know what's down there.
